There’s a million pubs around the world where a new owner could come in with a complete renovation and nobody would bat an eye. In fact, it’s usually good business as it will draw people in to check out the new digs. However, you take a place with as much history as Johnny’s Bar & Grill and it’s best to tread a bit lightly.
Peter is well versed in the history and lore of Johnny’s and has every intention of honoring that tradition while still kicking things up a notch. There’s big plans for the bar area based on ideas originally sketched out by Johnny Matalich (the bar’s namesake) back in the 50’s, but first a homage to the legend that put a small bar in Hollister on every biker’s must see list.
In the next couple of weeks, we’ll be installing a twenty foot mural that lays out the history of Hollister in biker culture. With images dating back to the 30’s and the full story of the impact our little farming town had on America’s perceptions, it’ll be good entertainment while you enjoy a hot meal and a cold beer. We’re hoping to have this in place before the Fourth of July weekend Non-Rally so stop on by.
