The folks from Roadshows Productions just returned from the Daytona Beach Bike Week (which actually lasted ten days), and it was a huge success. They didn’t waste any time and as soon as they returned to their hometown of Reno, Nevada, they hotfooted it (actually they drove), to Hollister. They had a great meeting with Chief Dave Westerick and city officials and our 70th anniversary rally is lining up to be a great one.

The celebrity host has been confirmed and it’s none other than, Erik Estrada, America’s favorite lawman. There are a few things you may not know about the CHiP’s TV star, turned lawman. Yes, he is actually a real cop. He works for the Saint Anthony Police Department in Idaho. As a reserve officer, Estrada’s main concentration is on catching online predators and educating children about them. His first position in law enforcement came in 2009 when the director of the Safe Surfin’ Foundation, Sheriff Mike Brown, gave him a full time position as deputy sheriff in Bedford, Virginia. The father of four has a heart for protecting children and had long dreamed of being a policeman.

Another CHiP’s fact that you may not be aware of, Frank was supposed to be an Italian-American named Poncherelli. Erik told the producer that he thought the he should play a Hispanic-American cop and he agreed. It was the first time prime-time television had cast a Latino with a positive role image and it opened the doors for other Latino actors. His dream to get his mother out of the projects came true with the Frank Poncherello part and she has never had to work a day since he landed the role in 1977. What a great role model.

Erik has six more years before he retires from the department but he takes time off to make appearances at events, as well as to champion the cause of Internet safety for children. We are proud to have him as a part of our 70th anniversary rally.
