I just checked out the Hollister Independence Rally 2016 line up and it is looking great. The forty page flip-book program that the folks at Roadshows put together is loaded with details for every day of the rally. There are too many bands to mention playing on three stages in three beer gardens. Denver’s Choppers is putting on a bike show at the Vets Hall featuring vintage choppers and bobbers. Harley Davidson is sponsoring demo rides on Friday and Saturday as well as stunt shows all three days of the event. Monte Perlin, stunt man extraordinaire, will give three thrilling shows in his Globe of Death every day of the event. A tip as to how talented Monte Perlin is: he was Arnold Swartzenegger’s stunt double in Terminator 3.

With over 60 vendors lined up and more signing up every day, there will be plenty of shopping opportunities for all things biker. Indian and Victory are offering demo rides at their San Felipe Road facility. Our pal Mike from Corbin is throwing a three day party this year. If you’ve never tried a Corbin seat, you don’t know what your butt is missing. You can get your custom seat built and installed while you enjoy music and a great meal at the Wizards Café. Industry vendors will be on site as well as a food court. The Top Hatters are hosting their 69th annual poker run on Saturday July 2nd. You can sign up at their clubhouse at 843 San Benito Street between 9:00 a.m. and noon. As always the Hollister First Methodist Church is holding their all you can eat biker breakfast on Saturday and Sunday from 7:30 until noon. The Hollister Veterans Memorial Building will host many events during the rally and all of food and beverages purchased inside benefits our local veterans. As well as being the Birth Place of the American Biker, Hollister offers some of the best weather in the country. There are so many scenic routes available for riding in the area that the Hollister rally should be tops on every biker’s list of events. I’m expecting a huge crowd to enjoy all this rally has to offer.

Our beloved Boozefighters are celebrating their 70th anniversary this year. Wino Willie started the club in 1946 and when they hit Hollister in 1947 they basically took over Johnny’s. I’m pleased to have met so many of the originals, and made so many wonderful friends that wear the green and white. I’ve had visits from members of the 13 Rebels, established in 1937 and the Yellow Jackets, established in 1938. I love seeing their smiling faces and hearing their stories. It’s such an honor to own the historic bar that is tops on their bucket list destinations.

At Johnny’s we kick off the party early. We usually start seeing an influx of visitors by Wednesday night. Once the vendors try our fabulous food they join us for a meal whenever they can. It’s a lot of fun to see the same folks return year after year. The excitement at Johnny’s is palpable and we are looking forward to it.

You can pitch a tent or park your RV at Bolado Park and enjoy the festivities the entire weekend. They will have vendors, bands, and biker movies after dark. I think all of San Benito County is gearing up to show our visitors a great time. Remember to check out the Hollister Independence Rally website and Facebook page for all of the details. Grab your VIP pass for all kinds of great bonuses.
Saddle up folks! Hollister’s famous rally is around the corner.
